SXSW 2026: All Together Now
SXSW 2026 was neither a celebration nor a collapse. It was a reckoning. The 40th-anniversary edition arrived at an inflection point: the Austin Convention Center demolished, attendance down 26% from pre-pandemic peaks, longtime leadership purged, and the festival’s identity more uncertain than at any point in its history. Yet the programming was substantively stronger than in recent years.
